Niche

Okay, I hope you’re starting to see why I originally said people don’t pay for bodywork. It wasn’t just to make you mad.

The first step to making this transition in your thinking stick is what people call niching. You’ve probably heard about this a million times before, and I won’t pretend to be the first to talk about its importance. But I do hope I can offer a unique perspective on it that makes it click a bit better than it has before.

So here’s the super simple version of a niche:

A group of people with a shared identity, a shared struggle, and a shared goal.

This could be tattoo artists, suffering from carpal tunnel, who want to get pain free so they can make more art.

Or this could be runners, dealing with tight hips, who want to improve their half marathon pace.

Or this could be grandparents, with limited mobility, who want to be able to play with their grandkids more actively.

A good niche adds two really important things - these people can easily pay your rate, and you love these people.

If you want the detailed version, you can check out my article “How to Get Clients - A Guide for Bodyworkers.”

Congratulations - you’ve made the first big leap in your communication skills, and you’ve avoided the biggest trap while doing it. Now it’s time to put it into action.
